WARRENBY GUNDOGS BREED INFORMATION

Bracco Italianos are another very distinctive breed of HPR ( Hunt, Point and Retrieve ) Gundog. First referred to in Italy around the 4th century B.C., they are one of the oldest established hunting breeds. They are a fairly rare sight in the UK, but it makes them no less capable.

They are a solidly built dog with a short coat and massive ears. When properly trained are biddable and very loyal but they are sometimes regarded as 'over serious' ... not an undesirable trait in a hunting dog as their concentration levels are superb, but they can appear to lack the playfulness sought by families ... this is not the case however as they are very playful. The Bracco is first and foremost a hunting dog and needs exercise, control and stimulation to make the most of their intellect and they revel in all forms of training with their handlers towards disciplines such as Working Tests, Field Trials etc. They can appear stubborn to novice handlers.

Good pups are hard to come by and prospective owners should be prepared to travel and be patient. The owners club can assist with the details of reputable breeders.

Fully grown, dogs 22 to 26 inches at the withers, bitches 21 to 24 inches.  Tails commonly docked.

Colour :- White with orange, chestnut or amber coloured patches.
