WARRENBY GUNDOGS BREED INFORMATION
References to English pointers first appeared in the 17th century when they were used by Falconers.
They are a very attractive dog. They can be quite sensitive but are generally loyal and kind. Aristocratic with an appearance of strength, endurance and speed. They were designed to range huge distances on moorlands. As with all hunting dogs, small animals ( including cats ) often equate to prey and so exposure to the same should be carefully controlled if you wish to avoid unfortunate results.
There are very few working lines in the UK today which means prospective purchasers of working English Pointers may have to travel to mainland Europe in order to source quality dogs. This breed is commonly undocked.
However, if you succeed in sourcing a quality dog or bitch from working lines you will get a dog that is capable of ranging huge distances all day long. As with all of the pointing breeds, if their energy is not focused on working, they will find another outlet. Early training is essential as they can develop into athletic and powerful dogs.
Fully grown, dogs 63cm to 69cm or 25 to 27 inches at the withers, shoulder, bitches 61cm to 66cm or 24 to 26inches at the withers.
Colours :- lemon and white; orange and white; liver and white; black and white; self colours and tri-colours are also correct.
