WARRENBY GUNDOGS BREED INFORMATION
The ancestors of Hungarian Vizslas were first mentioned in the 8th century in Hungary and were referred to as 'yellow pointers' are one of the Hunt, Point Retrieve (HPR) breeds. There are both wirehaired and smooth haired variants.
They are a very attractive and distinctive medium sized dog and when properly trained are biddable and loyal. They can however be quite sensitive. They are affectionate and gentle and make good family dogs. They are high energy dogs and were designed to hunt over large distances not walk on leads in municipal parks.
There are some good working lines in the UK today which means prospective purchasers of working Hungarian Vizslas have to research their lines with care. This breed is commonly docked for working use.
However, if you succeed in sourcing a quality dog or bitch from working lines you will get a dog that is capable of working reliably for extended periods. As with all of the HPR breeds, if their energy is not focused on working, they will find another outlet. Early, careful training is essential.
Fully grown, dogs 22 to 25 inches at the withers, bitches 21 to 24.
Colours :- Golden Rust; Solid Rust; Copper Brown; Russet Gold; Dark Sandy Gold.
