WARRENBY GUNDOGS BREED INFORMATION

Irish Water Spaniels are somewhat unique in their appearance. In Spaniel terms, they are huge and very distinctive with a curly coat. First developed around 1830 in Ireland.

If you have seen a Warrenby Gundogs display, then it is extremely likely that you will have seen one of these in action as two Irish Water Spaniels are owned and worked by Sue in the display team. The inclusion of the word 'water' in their name gives an indication of their willingness to enter the same and they are ideal for wetland work.

They are a substantial dog with the curly coat making them appear very solid indeed. They have a large amount of energy and love to run, so taking this into account with their size, they are not recommended for 'compact homes' and do not make ideal family pets in urban environments.

Pups are very hard to come by and prospective owners should be prepared to travel and be patient. The owners club can assist with the details of reputable breeders.

The Irish Water Spaniel’s ability to be work is recognised but they do require experienced training to get the best out of them.

Fully grown, dogs 22 to 24 inches at the withers.
