WARRENBY GUNDOGS BREED INFORMATION

Weimaraners are attested as far back as the 13th century in France and are one of the HPR breeds ( Hunt, Point and Retrieve ).

Weimaraners are generally short coated (there is a long coated variant ), medium to large sized dogs of an alert and intelligent disposition with a reputation for being somewhat stubborn. Their distinctive looks have in the past caused them to be a very fashionable dog, which resulted in looks being put ahead of ability in litter production. Consequently, it is very important to secure a dog from proven working lines.

They are powerful dogs once fully grown, so early training is vital and they are not dogs recommended for novice handlers.

The Weimaraner has a loyal and level-headed nature but dominant traits lurk just below the surface and they can develop strong guarding behaviour. Early socialisation and training is a must.

Adaptable as the Weimaraner is, it should be remembered that it is essentially a working gundog with a very active physique together with an active mind.

There are a lot of dogs available in the UK, so purchasers should choose carefully after researching the right line for their intended use. This breed is commonly docked for working purposes.

Fully grown, dogs 25 to 27 inches at the withers, bitches 23 to 25 inches at the withers.

Colours :- Mouse grey to silver grey.
