Warrenby Gundogs German Shorthaired Pointer World Championships 2008

WARRENBY GUNDOGS AT THE GSP WORLD CHAMPIONSHIPS 2008

In October 2008, Andrew and Emma of Warrenby Gundogs represented Great Britain at the German Shorthaired Pointer World Championships held in France. ( The full title was ' Championnat Du Monde Des Braques Allemands Sur Gibier Tire, Prix D'Excellence ' !!).

Andrew took Milo ( aka Sanjon Ariel at Warrenby ) and Emma took Jake ( see Stud Dog page ). Both dogs performed very well, but several major differences were highlighted between UK Working Tests and Field Trials and the World Championships run on the Continent. Firstly, in the UK, dogs are rarely required to hunt more than 50 to 100 metres from their handlers, whereas Continental tests can see the dogs ranging many hundreds of metres to each side and a similar distance in front, many times the distance tested during UK Kennel Club events. Additionally, dogs run with Cow Bells attached to their collars because at these massive distances, the handlers ( who cannot see the dogs in cover or woodland ) need to know when the dog has come onto point and can only do so when the sound of the bell stops. It was a wonderful experience and Warrenby Gundogs will send another team to the 2009 World Championships where we hope to give another good showing.

This event involves considerable expense with several dogs being transported over huge distances and Warrenby Gundogs receive no funding for this, so if you would like to sponsor our attendance at least in part, please contact us as the commercial potential is considerable. Remember, we represent Great Britain and march in the international parade with the Union Flag to the accompaniment of the National Anthem.
